ROS Workspace Set-up

  1. catkin workspace
mkdir -p ~/catkin_ws/src
cd ~/catkin_ws/
catkin_make
source devel/setup.bash
$ echo $ROS_PACKAGE_PATH

You should see something like

/home/youruser/catkin_ws/src:/opt/ros/kinetic/share
  1. catkin_tools

This is not essential, but convenient if you want to build individual packages.

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu `lsb_release -sc` main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ros-latest.list'
wget http://packages.ros.org/ros.key -O - | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python-catkin-tools

delete catkin_ws/devel and catkin_ws/build folders and make your package with

catkin build package-name
